The setting is reminiscent of the French Revolution of the 1790s. You have Field Marshals, Grenadiers, Dragoons, bi-corn hats, muskets, swords, bayonets, etc… The coup of the royal house and it’s court. War torn neighboring countries. Oh, and don’t forget that the gods walk among us.
The scene is set surrounding a powder mage. What is a powder mage? Why that is a person of special qualities, who can ingest gun powder, specifically black powder, and it turns them into something equivalent to Captain America. Enhanced senses, stronger, faster, but it also gives them various qualities to manipulate gunpowder and it’s effects. Not to mention they are one of the few people that true wizards, or Privileged as the story-line puts it, are deathly afraid of. However, in all fairness, who wouldn’t be afraid of the only person that could kill you from a mile away with a lead ball.
I found this to be highly entertaining and engrossing. I usually read for half an hour or so before I go to bed. I picked up the Powder Mage books, and I find myself forcing myself to put the book down and go to sleep at 3 o’clock in the morning, when I have to get up at 6 o’clock to go to work.
