Target Audience

The 3rd Annual Mount Sinai Advanced INNOVATIONS in Heart Failure Symposium has been designed to meet the educational needs of General and Sub-Specialized Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Transplant Professionals, Fellows in Training, VAD Coordinators and Ancillary Staff committed to caring for complex cardiac patients.

Educational Goal

The goal of the 3rd Annual Mount Sinai Advanced INNOVATIONS in Heart Failure Symposium is to provide health care professionals with important updates in advanced cardiac care and relevant clinical research in how to care for cardiac patients.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the worldwide burden of cardiovascular disease
  • Discuss the potential role of gene therapy for chronic systolic heart failure
  • Describe current strategies to increase the rate of myocardial recovery following LVAD implantation
  • Discuss new imaging modalities for the diagnosis of heart failure with an emphasis on diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis
  • Explain ongoing drug and device trials for patients with heart failure preserved ejection fraction
  • List combination oral therapy for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension
  • Discuss new left ventricular support devices and understand the differences between axial, centrifugal and mixed pumps
  • Explain adverse events associated with chronic mechanical support
  • Describe the current limitations to exercise performance in patients with heart failure and those supported by left ventricular assist devices
  • Discuss warm preservation techniques in cardiac transplantation and understand its potential role in increasing the donor supply by organ resuscitation and procurement after cardiac death
  • List current modalities to diagnosis non-invasively cardiac allograft rejection using microarrays, cell free DNA and imaging

Accreditation
